travel : charleston suggestions

charleston pastels

my husband and i are traveling to charleston soon for a wedding (and a much needed getaway) and i would love any travel suggestions. i am so excited to visit; i have never been somehow. any can’t miss restaurants or sights to see while we are there? we plan to explore the city and some of the islands nearby like folly and kiawah. we’re driving down, renting a beautiful townhouse, and planning to rent bikes.

the first hint of spring has arrived to nashville, and we could not be more ready. we have had friends and family (who are all moving to nashville!) staying with us till this week and had the best time trying new places. work has been busy with photographing projects and the install of my commercial project this month. march 8th was also my sweet nephew’s 1st birthday! happy spring.

travel : seaside, fl

IMG_7751this weekend, josh and i travelled with the dogs to seaside, florida for a development conference. i tagged along to enjoy the sun and sand. seaside is a new urbanism community that was beautifully master planned in the 80’s and is the location of the filming for the truman show (love that movie!) growing up, my family visited the neighboring seagrove beach every year in august. in the offseason, seaside is shockingly quiet and calm. some evenings were chilly, but the weather was beautiful during the day. we ate great seafood, lots of snow cones, and walked for hours.

one of the simple pleasures of the holiday season for me is decorating for the season. i look forward to it each year and we have made new traditions each year. we love picking out our tree, turning on a christmas record, drinking eggnog, and stringing lights. these pictures are really poor quality and it may not be what the holiday season is truly about, but it sure feels festive. merry christmas!

we bought a house!

we are homeowners officially! after five years here, my husband, josh and i finally bought the house we have been living in. this house has been very precious to me for my whole life, as it was my beloved grandparent’s home and the home my father grew up in. i grew up playing here in the creek and had many holidays around the table together with family. now, this house has become equally important to my husband, and he has fallen for it (the dogs also!) it is a special place.

i am so excited to share more here on the blog as we dream, plan, and renovate the property. as a designer and architect, we can’t help but have big plans on paper already. we look forward to sharing the process and making many (more) years of memories here. it seems like a fitting week to close and be thankful for all that we’ve been given!
