decorating for christmas

one of the simple pleasures of the holiday season for me is decorating for the season. i look forward to it each year and we have made new traditions each year. we love picking out our tree, turning on a christmas record, drinking eggnog, and stringing lights. these pictures are really poor quality and it may not be what the holiday season is truly about, but it sure feels festive. merry christmas!

we bought a house!

we are homeowners officially! after five years here, my husband, josh and i finally bought the house we have been living in. this house has been very precious to me for my whole life, as it was my beloved grandparent’s home and the home my father grew up in. i grew up playing here in the creek and had many holidays around the table together with family. now, this house has become equally important to my husband, and he has fallen for it (the dogs also!) it is a special place.

i am so excited to share more here on the blog as we dream, plan, and renovate the property. as a designer and architect, we can’t help but have big plans on paper already. we look forward to sharing the process and making many (more) years of memories here. it seems like a fitting week to close and be thankful for all that we’ve been given!

interiors : jenni kayne’s contemporary california home

home tour: jenni kayne

when i came across fashion designer jenni kayne’s beverly hills home tour on architectural digest, i knew immediately it would go in the ‘dream home’ file. the modern clean lines, the soaring wood ceilings, the custom millwork, and the steel frame windows won me over. i will be referencing this one as we design our new home. hope you enjoy!

big sky montana

montana | madeline made

in july, we visited our family’s cabin in dillon, montana about an hour outside of bozeman near yellowstone national park. we met my husband’s siblings there and spent the weekend relaxing in the quiet, cooking together, playing card games, flyfishing, and racing around on the polaris. it was perfect. the house, near where lewis and clark camped, was dropped off the union pacific railroad line that ran through the town and was built from a kit! here are some photos from our trip if you’d like to see.

we visited a nearby ‘ghost town’ bannack state park, which reminded me of a movie set.

one of our favorite parts of the week was wade-in flyfishing, so relaxing. you will have to take my word for it – we took lots of fun pictures of flyfishing, but lost our gopro during a fun, crazy adventure in tubing the beaverhead river (oops). we miss you already montana!

feeling fall

feeling like fall in tennessee….like everyone else, it is my favorite season. we just celebrated my 29th birthday this week, visited a pumpkin patch, drank apple cider, and huddled around a bonfire.

handmade adirondack chairs {for sale}

readers may not know much about my husband, but he is an architect and really talented craftsman. he has returned to his love of woodworking in his spare time and is making adirondack chairs this fall! the chairs are incredible – a custom design, handmade from solid cedar like our personal pair. they age beautifully in weather and smell amazing! he is selling them as singles ($300) or a pair ($550). i love these chairs so much – they are incredibly comfortable. local pickup would be easiest here in nashville, but we can arrange shipping for additional cost. comment or reach out if interested! these are perfect for all the fall firepits in our futures. thanks for reading ❤
