new traditions

new traditions | madeline made

2015 so far has been about rest and recharge. we spent new year’s day exploring with the dogs and letting them run and play at an agriculture center and preserve near our home. we decided a family hike in the woods would be a tradition every year on january 1, a time to reset in nature and be together. growing up on new year’s day, my parents always cooked black eyed peas for prosperity in the coming year. last NYE we were in nyc!

do you have any new year’s day traditions?

don’t they look like they are having the time of their lives…?

fall skies and happy news

i have only been gone three months. no big deal. there is much to make up for in the area of updates, but my most exciting news is that i am going to be aunt. my only sibling, sister and one of my best friends, natalie and her sweet husband matthew are having a baby boy, due march 6th! i am so happy for them and cannot wait to meet this little guy! the other thing i can offer is the most beautiful fall we have had in tennessee. here are some snapshots of our fall skies.

MADELINE

our new family member

if you follow me on instagram, you have probably seen that we adopted a new puppy this month, baxter. this and a few other things could help to explain the silence here on the blog in may and june. baxter is a four month old lab hound mix with a sweet temperament who stole our hearts. sampson, our other baby, is still warming up to him, as he has been an only child for four years, but i think in time they will be best friends. aren’t his little spots the cutest? we are so happy to have him as part of our family now! do you have any tips for handling and introducing two dogs? it has been a really difficult two weeks with getting some bad news, but puppy cuddles are helping me get through.

first signs of spring

{flowering hawthorne branches}

spring has quickly become my favorite season. working in an cubicle eight to five has made me appreciate the extra hours of daylight at night and the approaching color in nature. the yard is so beautiful this time of year; i am so thankful to live somewhere so beautiful with such a deep connection to nature. i get to watch the plants that my grandmother planted here come to life every year. yesterday was the first day of spring, and i am thankful for it’s arrival – bringing us all out of the winter blues. here are some blooms to brighten your day from our home. the first signs of spring peaking out…

moving sale finds

more on the really fun weekend – this saturday we decided to check out this moving sale from the bloggers at pencil and paper co. the house they flipped was so beautiful and there were loads of incredible items for sale… like this bertoia chair that i snatched up! it was not a bad price so i could not resist. it needs a sandblasting and powder coat refinish.

we look like hoarders from our pile (yes, that’s a giraffe). i wish i had grabbed these danish beauties or the thonet below, but only had so much room in my car!

i did get the squirrel jar, the ceiling mounts, and the espresso machine. the lights were free, (i plan on painting the housing brass and using these in the entry hall) and espresso machine was only $20 – i think a deal! we enjoyed espresso this morning and am so excited to make cappuccinos and lattes this winter.

we watched the most charming movie last night and will share more about it this week on the blog. we spent today ‘fall cleaning’ the closets, making a big pot of soup for the week, and my husband drew up some plans for our closet renovation. i wish the weekend was not over!

if you need something to listen to on this rainy night, remember the rainy days playlist?
